The Asufü Christian Institute (ACI) inherited its name from the birthplace of Christianity in the region. The word ‘Asufü’ means ‘a migrated place’. History dates back to the early 20th Century when the first believers of Christian faith from Punanamei village, namely; Mikrü Lohrü, Kholi Puni, and Hrüpuni Ashükho, were driven out from the village because of their belief. These acolytes of the faith migrated to the place where ACI Stands today. Since then the place was named as Asufü; the site where the first seed of Christianity took refuge. However, the then village chief-Kahre Mathibo, entreated them to return on condition that they will conform to the seven (7) traditional genas of the village. The three then became the pioneer evangelists to preach the Gospel of Christ among the Mao, Poumai, Maram and part of Zeme people in Senapati District. Along with Christian faith, education was brought to the region.
God has inspired an ardent follower of the faith, Shri L Dikho, a noted entrepreneur, social worker and a renowned politician to establish a legacy of the pioneer Christians through an Institution of Higher Education in 2010. ACI began its humble journey with a temporary affiliation to Manipur University (MU) which was granted on May 11, 2011 (No.MU/ASUFII-Affiliation/2011/CDC/424). The Institute was granted the permanent affiliation to M.U. (No.MU/ASUFU/2011/CDC/Pt. I /460) on January 4, 2017. Subsequently, the Institute was also recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC) Under Section 2(f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 (F.No.8-182/2017/CPP-1/C) on July 25,2017.
In its first year, the college began with 203 students enrolment, out of which 125 were male and 78 were female under the guidance of 13 teaching faculty and 3 non-teaching staff. Since then, every year the institute has been witnessing constant increase in numbers of both students and teachers. Not only is there an increase in population but in terms of infrastructure, lab and Library facilities, Charity work, Hostel ministry, Games and Sports facilities and myriad other activities. Today the college has grown to be a beacon of blessing and enlightenment for the people in the region
Every institution has its own philosophy to serve the society. Though a secular institution, ACI is founded with the conviction of Christian belief that every human being is uniquely created in the image of God (Gen.1:26, 27) for a special purpose and that the fear of God is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom (Prov.1:7, Col.2:3). The institute is, therefore, committed to guide every student to know God and to discover the purpose of God for his/her life; so that they become a responsible citizen of the society.
