Botany Department

History:

The Department of Botany was established for the first time in 2011 at the old campus at Asufii. Mrs. Sunita Gurumayum, M. Sc. NET, is in charge. The Department supervised forty students between 2011 and 2022 and produced S. Adaziia Krichena, who graduated from Manipur University in the top rank in the year 2021.

Vision

To conduct cutting-edge research, teaching, and outreach on life's patterns and processes, with a focus on plants or biodiversity in general

Missions

To contribute to the creation of an exceptional environment by enticing young minds, faculties, and communities to keep our vision alive. We focus on developing a concrete understanding of plants and their environments at the local, regional, and global levels, which results in increased biodiversity, evolution, and systematics.

FACULTY

Dr. Kreni Lokho: Madras Christian College M.Sc. and the University of Madras Ph.D. Six research articles were published in national and international journals, and four book chapters were published in Springer (Singapore and Switzerland) respectively. Joined on September 27th, 2021, and is currently the Department Head.

Mr. Lohrii Adai: Earned his M.Sc. degree from Manipur University and joined the institute on May 28th, 2012 to the present. He has also served on the Disciplinary Committee and as a convenor for Eco Club for several years. On May 16th, 2022, he also published a newspaper article titled "Soil rejuvenation through plants - Cultivator's Perspective" in The Sangai Express. For six years, he was the Department Head (From 2017 to 2022).

Ms. Komuni Khekho: M.Sc. from Guwahati University and B.Ed. from Mount Everest College, Senapati. Joined Asufii Christian Institute on July 5th, 2016, and left the institute in March 2020. She published a newspaper article in The Sangai Express titled " Azolla: An organic farmer's friend " on August 10th, 2020.

Mrs. Sunita Gurumayum: She earned her M.Sc. from Manipur University and passed the ICAR-NET exam. Started at the institute on September 5, 2010, and left in April of 2016. Before and during her time at the institute, she published six research articles in both national and international journals.
